In celebration of UP SIBOL’s fourth anniversary last August, the Educational Committee headed by Ranell Martin Dedicatoria spear-headed a Poster-Making Contest.
Forty two (42) participants from 16 elementary schools in Los Banos, Calamba, and Bay participated in the contest. The theme of the contest was “Ako bilang bata, sa lipunan anong magagawa?”.
Judging of entries was done on August 18, 2005 at the College of Development Communication (CDC) Annex 03.
Bernard Ahman Ebuña, UP SIBOL president; Prof. Stella Tirol, chair of the Department of Development Broadcasting and Telecommunication (DDBT) and UPLB Press Relations Office director; Edmund Centeno, CDC instructor, Paul Jersey Leron, UP SIBOL alumnus, and Elmer Harold Grande, UP SIBOL junior adviser served as the judges.
The entries were judged based on the posters’ connection to the theme, color scheme, lay out, and explanation.
From the 42 posters, the judges narrowed the entries down to ten. Out of these ten pre-selected posters, the best three were chosen. The top ten entries received a certificate of recognition while each of the participants received certificate of participation.
During the awarding ceremony, August 26, 2005, the top seven participating schools were named. They were Palingon Elementary School, E. Bareto Sr. Elementary School, Morning Star Montessori, Maquilling School Inc., San Antonio Elementary School, Tranca Elementary School, and Jose Rizal Memorial School.
The winners of the poster making contest were Gloria T. Solimnidad of Palingon Elementary School, 1st place; Aldrin M. Reyes of E. Barreto Sr. Elementary School, 2nd place; and Chrishia T. Sericon of Palingon Elementary School, 3rd place. Special awards were given to Gloria T. Solimnidad and Philip A. Resta, both from Palingon Elementary School as Members’ Choice and Senior Adviser’s Choice respectively. (RB Villar)
